Bib & Tucker Sew-Op is a sewing cooperative with the mission to cultivate skills and community for those who sew or want to sew (ages 9-99) where everyone can be both a teacher and a student. The Sew-Op hopes to facilitate a sewing-based cottage industry that provides income and flexible working conditions for women who head their households.

We began as a small sewing bee at Inglenook Library in Tarrant, AL. One of our founding members, Lillis Taylor, began teaching quilting classes in Woodlawn through ArtReach (a program of Alys Stephens Center’s ArtPlay) and shortly thereafter space within DISCO (Desert Island Supply Co) opened up and the rest was history. We meet weekly at DISCO to sew and quilt and look forward to building a cottage industry within Woodlawn.

Our founding members include: Annie Bryant, Lillis Taylor, Jeraldine Oliver, Carol Allen, Sharon Chamblin, Michelle Swanson, Theresa Rumore, Brittany Hartwell and others.

  1. Are lessons available? I sewed a tiny bit as a high schooler, but want to learn! How does your group work? Thanks!
